This is a tribute to my friend John because a) he rocks, and b) he bitched that he wasn't mentioned in any of my blogs. So here ya go, John. You get your very own entry!
I met John during my freshman year at UT. We ended up as roommates sophomore through senior year. He's still perhaps the best roommate I ever had because he's fairly neat, buys beer and doesn't mind mowing the grass every now and then. He did pee in the yard on an occassional late Friday or Saturday night, but he's from east Texas so we'll overlook that.
John is a genuinely good friend who will undoubtedly be around for years to come, assuming he doesn't kill himself driving too damn fast. He came to my rescue in undergrad when my car broke down on the lower deck mere feet after the I-35 split in Austin. He tricked me into going out to dinner on a rather gloomy 22nd birthday. He taught me how to snow ski. And no matter how fast I try to be, he always catches my foot when I kick him and then has me hopping around on one leg or falling on the floor. Watch out, though. I'm taking karate.
We don't always call each other back in a timely manner or keep up as much as we should. However, I know he'll always be there for me if I ever need him and I offer him the same in return.
Congrats on your new job, John! Texas misses you already!

Re: you owe me an email!
Nope, I don't think you met this one. He didn't live in Dallas when you were still here.I know I'm very behind on the e-mails! I was going to call you tonight, but crap just keeps coming up... will send a quick note now.
